A B J E C T R E N A I S S A N C E M M X I I

Been away for a while working up a horde of new material for 2012. First up for release are 5 new recordings by 3 very diverse tentacles of Austin's sonic swamp - Dakota Hogback, Power in the Blood, and ASKELA.

Physical copies can be obtained by contacting abjectrenaissance@gmail.com

Please enjoy and share with your friends.

POWER IN THE BLOOD
The Eyes of Tlaloc
Power in the Blood is a collaborative project between three distinct entities of the ATX experimental scene - Ernestina Forbis of How I Quit Crack, Chris Cones of Skullcaster and Hunter Shaw of Dakota Hogback. The sound of PITB is a hypnotic synthesis of technology and spirituality. Ancient rhythms and melodies are conjured through a contemporary electronic soundscape to create utterly singular compositions. Their first single "The Eyes of Tlaloc" contains elements of dark ambient, juke and gospel combined with dense, dreamy jungle atmospherics. The title is a reference to the Aztec god of water, whose eyes were commonly depicted as two serpents intertwined in an infinite loop. Tlaloc's devotees would wear the flayed skins of sacrificed children for 20 days before offering them to the god during the festival of Tozoztontli, which took place deep within the caves where he was thought to dwell.

POWER IN THE BLOOD
KVNTRL
The second PITB offering is even richer than the first. The track unfolds over 17 minutes like a drug setting in. Ms. Forbis' vocals are more present in the mix, upping the church vibe, which is complimented by deep, distortion-smothered drum and bass rhythms. Slurred acid-house keys and dubbed out sci-fi atmospherics ebb and flow over the ever-changing rhythmic foundation rendering the listener blissed and transfixxxed. This track was featured as the score for a live performance by S&M group Control at StomachPoop Vol. 1.

DAKOTA HOGBACK
Blood Dilemma (EP)
Blood Dilemma is a sonic psychodrama about cellular mutation and hypothetical cell-death terrorism. Recorded in a transitional period after the never-released "The More I See You" album, Blood Dilemma showcases a more refined version of Dakota Hogback's sinister dark electronic pastiche. The featured use of field recordings lends itself to the EP's narrative quality, producing a through-line dialog of familiarity between aesthetically disparate tracks. Less harsh and more hi-fi than previous Hogback outings, Blood Dilemma is nevertheless a challenging, cold, macabre - and ultimately rewarding - slab of heavy electronics.

ASKELA
.||.
(co-release with Repentance Products)
Nasty, nasty shit. Misanthropic trash-fi power electronics brutality. Nihilistic, sputtering junk-synths and abusive contact-mic fits duke it out behind vocalist FK's venomous tirades. The chaos of nature, not made for you.

ASKELA
X-I-MMXI
(co-release with Repentance Products)
ASKELA in ritual mode, raw and unfiltered. Hateful invocations welcoming the doomsday era. The rhythmic and atmospheric interplay between DT and HS builds an evil industrial soundscape for FK to unleash her sickened, outraged vocal attack. Uncompromising, insular, devastating.

A x R x M M X I

Samples from a few upcoming Abject Renaissance releases.

Vulgatus/ Vulgatus
AR09
Vulgatus unleashes a cyclone of nihilistic war grind. Less black metal than "Martyr Worship" (2009) Vulgatus crushes in violent bursts of chaotic sludge. ASSASSINATE!!!

Dakota Hogback/ (Not-Yet-Titled)
AR10
A new sonic direction and recording approach on this one. The first DH material not recorded on 4-track cassette means cleaner production for this cold industrial funk. Physical release to be limited and elaborate. Lots of original artwork. Details in the next few months (as well as a fucking title!)

Sweat Box/ In Too Deep
AR11
Minimalist club sleaze and relentless rhythm slavery. Soaking wet in the hypnotic designer drug atmosphere of a tacky russian strip joint. This full-length is a balls-out rave so don't drown yourself drinking too much water.

Obelisk Ruin/ Invocation of the Shemhamforasch
AR12
Ritual drones for the invocation of the 72 spirits of the Shemhamforasch. Invocation... will be released track by track via the internet over the last 72 days of 2011. Introspective drones for self-preservation and realization before the end of days.

ALSO COMING IN MMXI:
cassette and cdr releases by Askela, Hailfellow, The Holy Ghost Power Display (How I Quit Crack + Dakota Hogback), Shi No Shasei, and more.

A N N I H I L A T E T H I S W E E K

This weekend I was proud to share the stage with a few of my favorite artists from the American heavy electronics scene. Askela opened for Alberich, Thule, and Yellow Tears on Saturday, and on Sunday I did a Dakota Hogback collaboration with the inestimable How I Quit Crack on the same bill as The Haters, Black Leather Jesus, Death Pact International, and many other great acts. Below are some videos I took of Yellow Tears and Alberich and some photos of The Haters with Richard Ramirez. Unfortunately the footage of Thule from the show on the 19th was damaged, so I put up a video of Rob doing a Filth show from a few months back. Thanks to everyone who came out and made these shows such a success.
